About Give One

What is Give One for Cincy?

Give One for Cincy is a city-wide initiative celebrating the volunteerism happening throughout our region, and motivating all of us to spend a minimum of one hour per month volunteering our time for others. The goal is for the Greater Cincinnati area to collectively reach 250,000 hours in 2019.

Why 2019?

We have always been known as a philanthropic city – in donations of both time and treasure – but in recent years, according to data published by the Corporation for National and Community Service, our volunteerism rates have declined at a rapid rate compared to our peer cities. The Give One initiative was established to make sure the wonderful service already happening here is recognized, celebrated, and shared to encourage all of us to contribute time to the health and well being of our region.

In the mayor’s fall 2018 “State of the City” address, he reported on the great progress of the initial campaign and laid down the challenge to achieve 250,000 hours in 2019. As a result of the mayor using his annual address to inform citizens about the state of our volunteer ecosystem, more citizens are aware of the challenges we face in getting our citizens involved in community service activities. “For 2019, I am setting a new impossible dream of 250,000 hours,” the mayor said. “In the old west, the cavalry was all volunteer, so I am asking all of you to become part of our city’s cavalry of hope by serving. As Tocqueville observed in the early 19th century, Americans are uniquely involved in civic life as volunteers and that is what makes America so special. It’s not easy, but it is what makes life worth living and Cincinnati so special. It will be tough, but as we volunteer we will become a better city and better neighbors. And we will make real our ideals that everybody matters and that while opportunity isn’t equal now, it should be, and we will try to build a city where it is.”

What is Mayor Cranley’s role?

At the 2017 State of the City Address, Mayor Cranley shared his wish to make 2018 a year of service in Cincinnati. Give One for Cincy is the result of that wish and is truly the Mayor’s creation. He then collaborated with Cincinnati Cares to create the Give One for Cincy website.

What is Cincinnati Cares’

What are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how are they related?

On September 25th 2015, 193 countries agreed upon an ambitious set of 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved by 2030. Global goals can seem very removed from each of our daily lives, but it is the small differences we are making in our local communities across the world that roll up into the global impact to accomplish these 17 goals. It is important that we keep this greater impact in mind as we contribute our time and actions locally.

You can Give One through any nonprofit in our region that engages volunteers, at any volunteering events in the region, or simply offering your time to others in your own way.

For Nonprofit Organizations

How do I include my organization in the “Give One” or “Give More” opportunities shown on the platform?

Organizations listed on Cincinnati Cares are eligible to submit events for “Give One.” The logos for these organizations are also automatically available for volunteers to include in their Share One photo. If your organization isn’t listed on Cincinnati Cares, fill out THIS form to be included and be eligible to submit events.

“Give More” is intended to inspire volunteers who want to do more to find opportunities beyond a “Give One” opportunity. “Give More” opportunities are initially sourced from Task Force members. Other organizations with an appropriate “Give More” opportunity will be added by request. Please direct requests to [email protected].

How do my organization’s volunteers submit their hours?

Volunteers can share their hours via the Share One platform by clicking Share One on the Give One for Cincy website or through the app that can be downloaded to your smartphone from the app store for both Android and iPhone.

Can I submit the hours that volunteers have contributed to my organization?

If the volunteers are part of an organized group (e.g. a Young Professional group, a Girl Scout troop, etc.) and not already submitting these hours as a group themselves, then yes, you can submit these hours for them. Send an initial email to [email protected] that includes the name of the group, the group’s logo (if applicable), your organization’s logo, and ideally some photos of the group volunteering. With this information, the Give One for Cincy team will add the group to the system. From this point forward, any hours this group contributes can either be emailed to [email protected], or updated directly to the system through a login that can be created for your organization.

How do I set up defaults?
